Tonye (pronounce: Tôn-yè) has been quite popular in Cameroon as a soukous and
singer during the 1980s and 1990s. Of Bassaa origin (as opposed to most makossa stars who are generally Douala),
he mixes this Congolese music style with makossa and antillian zouk. The result is hot and very dancable.
Tonye has released three albums during the 1980s, the most successful being « Soukous Caporal ».
During the next decade, he continued to record albums that received considerable success, such as
« Missié Bakari » (1991),
« Piment chaud » (1993) and
« Madame vous êtes belles » (1996).
