Black AD is a young singer, she is still student at the
Conservatoire des Arts et Métiers
Multimédia Balla Fasséké KOUYATE in Bamako. Already when 12 years old, she want to be a singer, inspired by
Oumou Sangaré and, later, Southafrican
Nomcebo
(famous for the song
« Jerusalema »).
In November 2022, she was nominated with 9 other artists out of more than 2000 candidates at the French radio RFI's
Prix découverte, and she won the award. She was 19 years old.
She won the award with her song
« Mali », taken from her first EP
« Idjidja : Volume 1 » (2021), where she sings about the beauty of her country Mali, appealing
to respect traditions and be united as a country. Given the various disruptive upheavals Mali is facing since years,
this is a welcome appeal, watching the video clip of the song, one is tempted to hope for a better future for Mali.
Still in 2022, she released a second volume of
« Idjidja : Volume 2 », which is compiled to
« Idjidja : Volume 1 & 2 » on the streaming platforms. Black AD is very popular in Mali because of her
sense of fashion, beauty and her attachment to Malian traditions.
